News in brief
RIP William (Bill) Whitehead
It is with great sadness we have to announce; on Thursday 22 June 2017, after a bravely fought battle with illness for many months, William (Bill) Whitehead passed away peacefully with his family by his side.
He has been a loyal friend and stalwart of the HYBEA for over 20 years, mainly on BBb bass, but has also served on our committee, helped with our youth band, regularly transported equipment and was always willing to help anyone with a problem.
His willingness to help other local bands meant he was well known to many band persons in the Huddersfield area and will be missed by everyone that knew him.
Bill’s funeral will be St. St Stephen’s Parish Church, Lindley, Huddersfield HD3 3JB, at 1.30pm.
YORKSHIRE REGIONAL CHAMPIONS 2017
During the weekend of 4th - 5th March 2017 Huddersfield town hall was the venue for the Yorkshire Regional Brass Band Championships and 58 bands competed, in their various sections, to qualify for the National Championships on the 16th - 17th September in Cheltenham. The top two bands in each section qualified for the finals.
On Saturday 4th March, after weeks of rehearsals, Huddersfield & Ripponden Brass saved their best performance for the contest stage and triumphed in their home town. A superb performance clinched 1st place, and qualification for the finals, for the first time in 20 years.
