Gavin Brown

Gavin Brown is a professional tuba and sousaphone player, as well as a brass tutor with Musica Kirklees. He began his musical journey playing with local music service bands, as well as the Scissett Youth Band and Sellers International Youth Band.

Gavin went on to study music at the University of Huddersfield, specializing in performance under Shaun Crowther and Philip McCann. Throughout his career, he has performed on Eb and Bb bass with top-ranking brass bands, competing at the highest levels across the UK. Additionally, he has served as Musical Director for Golcar and Deepcar Brass Bands and has led several youth ensembles, including Musica Youth Brass.

Today, Gavin balances teaching, leading workshops, and performing. He has expanded his professional network to include a diverse range of performance and recording opportunities with ensembles like Viva Sinfonia, Renegade Brass Band, Backchat Brass, The Hip Priests, and Fat Cat Brass. He also leads his own New Orleans-inspired jazz band, Deadbeat Brass, which performs regularly at venues and festivals across the UK. Gavin now looks forward to reconnecting with his brass band roots as Musical Director of Huddersfield and Ripponden Brass Band.
