Huddersfield and Ripponden Brass Band

The Huddersfield and Ripponden Brass Band is a community and family oriented brass band based in Golcar, Huddersfield and represents one half of the Huddersfield Youth Brass Ensemble Association.

The Youth band was founded by Mr Edgar Whitham in 1963 but in 1992, members formed a senior band which was named Huddersfield Brass Ensemble. The band was immediately successful and qualified for the 3rd section National Finals in 1997.

Since then the band has changed its name to Huddersfield Brass and in 2006 to Huddersfield and Ripponden Brass following the merger of Huddersfield Brass and Ripponden Carriers brass bands.

In 2015, the band appointed Adam Bell as its Musical Director and under his direction the band has achieved notable success winning the Yorkshire 4th Section Area title, qualifying for the National Finals and achieving promotion to the 3rd section at the same time.

The band has achieved further success under Adam Bell coming 2nd in the Yorkshire 3rd Section in 2022 and winning the title in 2023, both times qualifying for the National Finals. From January 2024, the band will compete in the 2nd section.

The band practices once a week and has a sensible range of concerts and contests and do some great jobs including Whit Friday, Durham Miners Gala and Remembrance Sunday.
