Brass Ahoy Sets Sail for Saddleworth
Whit Friday 13 June 2005
The hills were alive with the sound of brass as our scratch band Brass Ahoy made waves at the Whit Friday Marches in Saddleworth. Formed specially for the occasion, the nautical-themed ensemble brought music, mischief and pirate spirit to the streets of Denshaw, Delph, Lees, Grotton, Greenfield and Lydgate.
Decked out in pirate regalia, Brass Ahoy raised smiles as they paraded through the villages showing off their swashbuckling style.
“We had an absolutely fantastic time!” said one of the band members. “The Whit Friday atmosphere is always brilliant. Cheers on the streets and camaraderie between the band made the whole experience unforgettable”.
The band extends its heartfelt thanks to all the players and to the hardworking organisers and volunteers at each contest site. “None of this would be possible without the incredible effort behind the scenes”, added a band members. “We’re so grateful for the warm welcome we received in every village”.
Brass Ahoy may have been a scratch band but we left behind lasting memories and plenty of smiles. We’re already looking forward to our next Whit Friday adventure.
